of global carbon emissions come from buildings and construction
The net-zero deadline — your projects built today will still be standing then
The window to upskill and lead — before regulations close the door
The Challenge
The industry is transforming fast. Clients are asking about embodied carbon. Regulations are tightening. And most AEC professionals are navigating this shift with no roadmap, no training, and no one to ask.
"I knew decarbonization mattered. I just didn't know how to make it matter in my actual work."

Free Course
A structured, practitioner-focused course that cuts through the noise and gives you exactly what you need to understand, talk about, and start applying decarbonization principles in your projects — regardless of your starting point.
Why buildings sit at the centre of the climate challenge — the science, the scale, and what it means for your career starting now.
A data-driven look at how buildings contribute to global emissions — across regions, building types, and the full construction lifecycle.
How energy use in buildings converts to carbon — and the design, systems, and operational decisions that drive it up or bring it down.
The carbon locked into materials, construction, and end-of-life — why it's often overlooked and how AEC professionals can start accounting for it.
How to make the case for low-carbon approaches to owners, developers, contractors, and executives — translating sustainability into language that moves decisions.
The regulations, codes, carbon pricing mechanisms, and net-zero commitments shaping the industry — and what AEC professionals need to know to stay ahead of them.

Why This Program
Most decarbonization content is written by researchers or policy advocates — people who don't have to coordinate with a structural engineer, manage a client's budget expectations, or get a GC to buy in on a spec change. This program is different. It's built from the ground up for the realities of AEC project delivery.
Whether you're an architect just starting to hear about embodied carbon, or an engineer looking to formalize your understanding before regulations arrive, this program meets you where you are.

Ayo Daniel Abiola, P.Eng., CDP, PQS is a cost and carbon consultant, mechanical engineer, and one of the first 64 people globally to earn the ASHRAE Certified Decarbonization Professional (CDP) designation in 2024 — a credential that places him at the leading edge of a profession the built environment urgently needs. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario and Saskatchewan — two provinces with starkly different sustainability and carbon profiles — he brings a uniquely grounded, coast-to-coast perspective to the decarbonization challenge. His career spans design-build contracting, project management, building equipment sales, mechanical engineering, energy consulting, and quantity surveying, giving him fluency across every phase of a project where carbon decisions get made. He trains hundreds of professionals annually on sustainable infrastructure, including at MIT Professional Education certificate program. He is a featured contributor on decarbonization for the Construction Economist, a quarterly publication of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, and served as VP of Black Engineers of Canada which he co-founded. This program distills everything he has learned — not as theory, but as practical foundational bedrock — built for the AEC professionals who have to make it work on real projects.
